“It was great, but we couldn't see many animals. Mostly birds and crocodiles, buffalo and deer. Also we saw one elephant and a leopard passing by the road. Maybe it's normal for this country, but I expected more.”

Review of the Yala safari from Sri Lanka’s south coast, with leopard sightings, a three-hour Jeep drive, guides, costs, and practical tips.

“The Yala safari was fantastic and the guide was great. The transport from our accommodation to the safari team was chaotic. The driver didn't seem to know where to pick us up from and initially asked us to walk somewhere 0.5hours away so had to give him directions to get somewhere near where we were staying and then he drove like a maniac ( juggling 2 phones and driving at 100-130kmh) with a packed van of tourists”

See Udawalawe’s elephants, crocodiles, birds, and rescued calves on a door-to-door safari from Sri Lanka’s southern coast.

“everything was absolutely perfect. The driver from the hotel to the park was ahead of time, with a very nice car, and drove very good. He took us to the park where he handed us over to our guide, who was also amazing. He explained a lot to us and was a very careful driver too. We got to see a lot of animals, including elephants, buffaloes, crocodiles, deers and lots and lots more. The whole experience was an amazing one and we would definitely recommend Wanderluxe to anyone who wants to do this or a similar tour”

4.Transfer to Hikkaduwa & Yala Safari Tour

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 11 reviews · 9 hours · from $48

Review of Ella to Hikkaduwa transfer with a three-hour Yala safari, leopard sightings, practical costs, timing, transport, and booking advice.

“This is a transport cum Yala National park safari tour put together in one. It involved being ferried in a van with a dozen other people from Ella to a shop in Tissamaharama, then round trip jeep, then Tissamaharama to anywhere along the coast to Galle. It seems like good value but there are several caveats. 1) it is a popular tour so there are many people crammed into small vehicles. There is also no hotel pick up. Everyone meets at a cafe before 3 am and you need to walk there yourself in 13C amid roaming dogs. 2) singles pay the price of two persons each. This is the…”
